BUILDING & GROUNDS IS THE MINISTRY OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL

Next time you are at River Glen notice the beautiful grounds, from the majestic trees, flowering bushes, or the green grass. All of this is maintained almost entirely by members and friends of the church. I have been involved in many different ministries over the years, but my favorite is to help mow the grass. As a part of the mowing team, we are scheduled in two person teams approximately every 6 weeks. We coordinate with our mowing partner and mow on Friday evening or on Saturday, depending on our availability. The church provides the mowers, gas and all the other tools you need. The total time required mowing and cleanup is about 2 hours. And after you are done you can feel good about helping to make River Glen a more welcoming place. If you are interested and would like more information, please contact Terry Moore at 630-579-1391 or email@example.com
The Growing as Disciples Team is sponsoring a community garden to benefit the Loaves and Fishes food pantry in Naperville. If you are interested in helping with the garden, please contact Terry Moore at 630-728-1269 or email firstname.lastname@example.org, or Pat Hansche at 630-378-1751 or email at email@example.com
The children collected $148.92 in March and have chosen to give it to One Great Hour of Sharing adding to the amount that they brought in with their fish banks this month. Thank you for your generous support of this wonderful opportunity for the children to participate in mission!
Below are links to the songs and hymns we will be singing this Sunday in worship. Please use them to prepare yourself for worship.

RUN WITH THE LIONS -5k Run / Walk to support Longwood School
Join us on Saturday April 25 2015 at Danada Forest Preserve for the second annual 5k walk / run for Longwood School. Last year over 400 people and 25 from River Glen participated in the event to raise funds for Longwood School.
All race participants will receive a medal and a shirt—a shirt that includes the initials CJD in honor of Chris Davolos. Chris was not only a leader and participant in the many River Glen events organized with Longwood (Chris spent many Fridays volunteering to play with the kids on recess through the school’s D.O.G.S program—Dads of Great Students), but he was an avid runner. Please join Kathy Davolos and other members of her family to help support Longwood School on April 25.
Registration is only $20.00 if you register before April 10. Please visit www.runwiththelions.com to register for the run / walk.
See you on April 25th!
As part of our ongoing partnership with the Longwood Elementary School community, River Glen is co-sponsoring the upcoming “Run with the Lions” 5k Run/Walk to be held on Saturday, April 25th. In an effort to make sure any Longwood student who wants to participate will be able to do so, we are looking for River Glen members and friends to “Sponsor A Runner”. Your $25 donation will allow at least one financially deserving student and their parent to participate with his or her classmates. Visit our table in Fellowship Hall for more information and to sign up for a sponsorship.

PRAYER CORNER – As the season of Lent continues we have once again set up our Prayer Corner in the Worship Center, this time up in the right front corner. Believing in the power of prayer we want to provide a quiet place where we can go as individuals or with others to pray. There are some resources provided in the corner to help you focus your time with God. You can leave individual written prayer requests in the prayer box and our prayer team will pray for those requests. If you would like someone to pray with you or for you personally either on Sunday morning or during the week, please contact Pastor Barbara Carmichael.

MEN’S “BREAKFAST CLUB” – Join us for conversation and camaraderie every
Thursday from 6:30am to 7:30am at the Starbucks at Route 59 and McDowell Rd. Get your coffee, tea, bagel, or oatmeal for discussion on random topics. No preparation is needed. Contact Rich Gorecki (firstname.lastname@example.org or 630-926-2100) with any questions.
WOMEN’S THURSDAY AM BOOK GROUP – are reading Flipped, by Doug Pagitt. We meet at 9:30am each Thursday at the church through May 28th. The author raises an interesting question that he hopes to help each of us answer as people of faith. “How would your life change if you “flipped” your understanding of God”. Interesting question? If you are interested in the dialogue of how Jesus can better help us understand God, we think you’ll enjoy the group conversation. Don’t have to attend every week to be part of the conversation. Hope to see you there. If you need or someone you know needs childcare, please let Jane Boumgarden know in advance, so we can secure childcare for your time. (email@example.com).
EASTER FOOD DRIVE: One simple way to grow spiritually is through giving. Lent is a perfect time to be reminded about others that often do not have food. Our community partner Loaves and Fishes of Naperville is in need of the following items (listed in order of highest priority)
– Canned protein (tuna, salmon, chicken, beans)
– Canned vegetables (corn, peas, green beans, olives, tomatoes, beets)
– Canned and dried fruit (peaches, pears, mixed fruit, applesauce, raisins)
– Cereals and grains (rice, oatmeal, pasta, crackers)
– They accept non- food items too ( paper towels, zip lock bags, toothpaste, shampoo, cleaning products)
This list of items is available at the Loaves & Fishes cart in the vestibule where items can be dropped off anytime. The Deacons of River Glen thank you.
RECYCLING – We need your help to continue recycling at River Glen. A big problem is a non-recyclable item put in the blue recycling containers contaminates all the recycling. Please help: 1) Put bulletins and paper in basket outside Worship Center. 2) Put all other RECYCLING into Blue Recycling Containers: paper, cardboard, aluminum, plastic (not bags). 3) Put everything else into Trash containers. Note: paper plates, cups, napkins are NOT recyclable.
LABELS FOR EDUCATION – LONGWOOD SCHOOL Good Job! We collected and delivered 1500 labels to Longwood last fall! River Glen has been supporting our neighbors at Longwood Elementary School in many different ways. We have another opportunity to support Longwood through three label-clipping programs: Labels for Education, Tyson Project A+ and Box Tops for Education. Please look for these labels in your pantry and on your grocery store shelves. Please place collected labels in the Labels for Education Box on the Opportunity Table. Complete lists of products participating in these programs are available on the Opportunity Table or online at our web site, www.riverglen.org, please follow this link for lists of participating sponsors
