Periodically, the church convenes around fellowship events such as a picnic or pig roast, ice cream social, or pot luck. Our community life ministry is very active, offering opportunities for families and friends to form memories together whether on a camp-out or vacation or during special services like our Christmas Live Nativity or our Easter Seder meal.
Yarns of Love is a knitting and crocheting fellowship which began to answer a national call for woolen helmet liners for our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. They have expanded to create lap robes for a VA Hospital and baby caps for infants in developing countries, and they are beginning a Prayer Shawl Ministry for church members and friends. They meet once a month at the church and welcome beginners as well as experienced needle-workers.

Several of us meet each week at the Starbucks at Route 59 and McDowell Road from 6:30 to 7:30am. No preparation is needed so just show up, buy breakfast or just a cup of coffee, and enjoy the casual discussion on random topics.
The Saturday AM Men’s Group is a weekly meeting of men for study and fellowship. We meet Saturdays from 7:30 to 9:00 am beginning with a continental breakfast.

The book club has been meeting for over 29 years with 3 to 4 books that the women read a year. Lively conversation around fiction and non-fiction books related to matters of faith occur from September through May, with a brief break over the Christmas holidays. It is not required to be there every week to be part of this group – our hope is that when you can come, you will feel welcomed and can easily join the conversation. The women contribute a dollar per week/per person to pay for a childcare provider. Coffee and friendship, free!!
The group is currently reading Small Victories, by Anne Lamotte. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jane Boumgarden (firstname.lastname@example.org). New readers always welcomed with new opportunities to meet new people and enter in to thoughtful conversations around faith and culture.
This group of senior adults gathers on the fourth Sunday of the month after the second service for a shared meal and a program. Participants continue to grow spiritually by sharing in book and Bible studies periodically. They are also involved in numerous service projects and sponsorship. Through a variety of programs and events, every member of this group has an opportunity to enjoy the company and fellowship of other mature Christians. We aspire to bring families of all ages together to strengthen our relationships as we go through life together. We conduct monthly events and activities that are open to children and their families as well as the entire River Glen family. Activities have included Kid’s Night Out, Retro Bowling etc.
One of the best ways to connect in a church and to grow spiritually is to join a small group. Many members and friends of River Glen are in a small group of eight to twelve members, meeting at a variety of times and intervals to share a book or bible study of their choosing. At least once a year, a church-wide small group study is provided to coordinate with the sermons. Much care is offered and received through the naturally occurring friendships in small groups. Please check with the church to find out about groups that are forming now – Call (630) 357-5104.
